UK to expand energy price support program
The UK will expand its Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) for offshore customers in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The country’s business, energy and industrial strategy said in a statement on Thursday.
The program provides discounts on gas and electricity prices for out-of-country customers such as businesses, voluntary organizations such as charities. and government organizations such as schools, hospitals and child care facilities.
The government will pay a flat 150 pounds ($180) to all non-consumers in countries that are not on the gas grid or using alternative fuels. A “top-up” payment will be made for the bulk of the heating oil users, based on usage.
The extension of the energy price support program comes at a time when the country’s energy concentrate is grappling with rising energy costs.
