The suspect was identified as Chunli Zhao, according to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus.
Dave Pine, the chairman of the San Mateo County Executive Board, attributed the suspect’s spelling to CNN.
“Zhao was in his car in the parking lot of the Half Moon Bay Police Substation Sheriff’s Office, deputy sheriff Zhao was taken into custody without incident. Zhao was believed to have acted alone,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Zhao is currently in charge of the San Mateo County Sheriff.
It is not known when he will appear in court.
