13 arrested for doing business with Havala and Handi in separate raids
Lahore: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIA) arrested eight people on Thursday. As part of a crackdown on currency smugglers and handi businesses, Havala, ARY News reported.
FIA teams raided Sadiq Plaza Mall Road, Nabha Road and Mouj Darya Road, inspected more than 50 suspicious shops and cordoned off 22 shops involved in illegal currency exchange without authorization from the Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
FIA director Sarfaraz Khan in the media stated that the FIA team had successfully recovered $214,000 USD and other foreign currencies worth at least Rs 26 million, adding that a total of Rs 324 million was recovered over two months.
He said 79 individuals were arrested while 42 were registered under illegal possession of foreign currency.
He praised the efforts of the FIA team and vowed to continue the crackdown until the last illegal agent was arrested in the provincial capital.
